The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington highlighted Max's attendance at the Bender JCC Preschool via BEAM telepresence robot as a wonderful example of the JCC's commitment to inclusion. This video they commissioned looks inside the classroom that Max attends, beautifully capturing the relationships between Max, his friends, his teachers, and the entire preschool community.

I am graduate clinician in Speech pathology. I got a chance to meet Max and his parents while I was shadowing the speech-Langyage Pathologysts Dr. Ball at Childrens national in DC. I am very much impressed by the love and care that Maxis getting from his parents. I was amazed when I heard that he ushering to Disney Land soon with his parents. I am wondering what are the materials and things you take with you when you take Max for a trip, while on the train or while browsing on Disney Land and why?

Looking forward to your response.

Dear Ibby, it was so great to meet you during our CNMC visit with Dr. Ball.

Re: your question as to what we take with us to Disney World -- we definitely don't travel light! Last summer we took the Auto Train (from Lorton, VA to Sanford, FL, just outside Orlando), which enabled us to stow our wheelchair van (packed full of stuff) onto the train while we rode in two compartments (one handicap-accessible). Into the van, we packed up a week's worth of medical supplies, all the expected luggage for Max + his parents + and one nurse, and whatever additional supports we anticipated possibly needing (Max's arm slings, etc) during the trip.

One "secret" -- when the van was fully packed, we had a cartop carrier on the top which was full of medical supplies. Once we arrived to the train station, we unloaded ourselves from the van and then loaded the supplies and cartop carrier into the van's interior for the train ride. After we arrived in FL, we simply reversed the process.

It was a lot of work...but well worth it! You can see lots of photos from Orlando in the photo albums from last summer on Max's FB page: https://www.facebook.com/pg/maxstrength4sma/photos/?tab=albums

Great question!
